ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY FIELD HOCKEY LEAGUE UPDATE

Atlantic University Field Hockey was unable to gain varsity status for the upcoming 2016-2017 season. An AUS motion was passed at the 2015 AGM that would require 3 AUS member schools to commit to participating in a sanctioned AUS Championship tournament; this did not happen. We required 3 of the 7 participating Atlantic Universities. Although Atlantic University Field Hockey had 3 CIS Varsity teams for the last 6 years we were unable to secure these 3 teams. UPEI coaching staff and players sincerely thank Athletic Director Chris Huggan for his support over the last year.

Players and head coach, Shelia Bell, recently had a meeting regarding the upcoming. The first event of the season will be a tournament hosted by the University of Toronto Varsity Blues on September 9-11 2016. The tournamnet will be held at the Pan Am Turf with 8 OUA teams and SMU  participating.

For Atlantic University Field Hockey League: a meeting will be held Thursday September 14 regarding gym/turf practices, team selections, and cost to participate. AUFH tournaments are scheduled for Sept 24-25 at SMU/DAL, Oct 15-16 (TBA), and Oct 29-30 at UPEI.

If interested in AUFH please contact Barb Carmichael to submit your name for the AUFH meeting.

Emily Ross, a 4th year nursing student and member of the Field Hockey Panters is currently on a clinical rotation in Kenya in combination with Farmers Helping Farmers.

Way to go Emily on setting a great example in our global community!
