COVID-19 has led PEIFHA to rethink its summer programming. Though we are not allowed to gather together at this time we still want to keep the sport going this summer. Out of this was born our "Socially Distanced Summer Program."

We have had a number of awesome instructors step up wanting to share their knowledge and skills with PEI athletes. They're going to submit videos every week to be shared with participants. Videos will consist of agility, fitness, and skills/drills that can be done at home.

If you're interested in the program, check out more information on the attached poster. We have balls available for sale if you do not have one but wish to participate in the program.

Nov. 23, 2018                 Canadian Indoor Classic

This year will be the first year that we are sending a women’s team to compete at the Canadian Indoor Classic on February 9th-10th 2019 in Waterloo, Ontario.

This is the highest level indoor field hockey tournament in North America. There is both a women’s and a men’s division and the majority of men’s/women’s Canadian national team players compete on various teams at this tournament. In addition, national team players from the USA and other countries in central America also compete.

For the past 6 years we have sent a men’s team to compete and represent the east coast. In 2017 we finished as the second best indoor team in North America, after losing a close match in the finals to the Toronto Lions.

The Atlantic provinces have some of the best female players in the country; players like former SMU player Katie Baker from PEI have gone on to represent Canada as the captain of the outdoor national team. Unfortunately our Atlantic university field hockey players no longer have the opportunity to compete at the USPORT nationals. By sending a women’s team to the Canadian Indoor Classic we can show the AUS and Field Hockey Canada that our women deserve a chance to compete.

On November 24th, 2018 at 5-7pm at the Needham Center in Halifax, NS there will be an open tryout/training session for this team.  Women of all ages are encouraged to try-out. This includes all players from the Atlantic provinces, NS provincial team and any players who compete or previously have competed in the Atlantic University Field Hockey Championship.

There will be a $5 tryout fee for all players which will go towards paying for the gym time and to help pay the tournament deposit.

If you are interested you just have to attend the tryout, but if possible fill out the attached registration form beforehand. Otherwise we will have extra copies at the tryout. If anyone is interested in the team but cannot attend the tryout please send me an e-mail. We cannot guarantee future tryout dates but we will make every effort possible.

It is important to note that this is a unique opportunity for players to be looked at by university and national scouts. Also this is a great year to attend because the new Swoop airline offers cheap direct flights from Halifax to Hamilton, which is close by to Waterloo. If you are unable to attend this tournament this tryout will act as an opportunity to make yourself known for upcoming events as well so be sure to attend this weekend!

Attached you will see the tournament poster. Also feel free to check out the tournament website or the Facebook page:

https://www.canadianindoorclassic.com/

https://www.facebook.com/canadianindoorclassic

Looking forward to seeing everyone out on Saturday!
